The Waldviertler shoe factory was established in Austria by the social minister in 1984. It was a social employment project. Today they still manufacture the shoes in Waldviertel (a region in lower Austria). They also started a new project called Sonnenfamilie. This project helps them to increase the amount of electricity they generate by photovoltaic panels. People can contribute to this project by donating €200 to the company so they can install another solar panel (helps them to save 150 kg CO2) and the donator gets a voucher of €30 each year for the next ten years.
